About
Ljuliana Thomas is a musician who has a work ethic to match her versatility. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Ljuliana began her musical journey taking classical piano lessons at the age of 3; where she was recognized as a prodigy by the faculty at University of Memphis Community Music School. After studying classical music for 10 years, Ljuliana joined the Stax Music Academy as a part of the Senior Academy rhythm section and jazz band. During her time at Stax she was mentored by Grammy-award winning Kirk Whalum and got to play behind artists like George Clinton, William Bell, Joyce Cobb, Sam Moore, and Carla Thomas. In 2015, Ljuliana was afforded the opportunity to attend the Berklee College of Music Five-Week Summer Program under a City Music Scholarship for jazz piano. In 2016, she received a scholarship from Berklee, again, to go the Five-Week Summer Program this time for jazz vocals. After leaving the Stax Music Academy in May of 2017, Ljuliana has been mentored by Stephen Lee and Johnny Yancey and worked with Donald Brown, Grammy-award winning drummer Ulysses Owens Jr., and blues singer Red Velvet. She was awarded the National Young Arts Foundation merit scholarship for jazz vocals in both 2017 and 2018.
In 2018, Ljuliana was awarded a Presidential Scholarship to the Berklee College of Music where she earned her degree in Contemporary Writing and Production with a minor in Screen Scoring. She performed on almost every stage Berklee had to offer during her four years as a student, including some major shows: The Micki Miller BPC Show (piano, aux), the Legacy Awards Concert (vocals, piano), and Berklee’s Commencement Concert (piano, aux keys, vocals, spoken word). She studied with and was mentored by Tia Fuller and Kevin Harris, and was afforded the opportunity to play for and with musicians such as Harry Connick Jr., Micki Miller, and Jazzmeia Horn. Ljuliana studied at Berklee’s campus in Valencia, Spain and form lasting relationships with many of her colleagues.
After graduating, Ljuliana returned to Memphis and returned to teaching full time at the Memphis Jazz Workshop, helping to further the education of Jazz with local youth and young adults. After her time in Memphis, Ljuliana moved to New Jersey where she is teaching private lessons for piano and voice in Flemington, NJ. She enjoys the opportunity to help shape young minds and using music to positively impact the lives of others.
Ljuliana also records and produces under the name Ljuli Giselle and released an EP, Heart Strings, in 2021 and a single, More Time, in 2025 and is working towards releasing her debut album, The Tales of Grief.
